About Me: My name is Eric Oberle. I have been bowling league since I was 4. I grew up in Boston, Mass and moved to the Philadelphia area to attened Temple University to study and bowl. I graduated from Temple in 1999 with a degree in Civil Engineering. I currently work for a consultant in Mount Laurel, NJ. I married my wonderful wife on 10/7/05 and we are expecting our first born daughter on January 27th. I joined the PBA in 2006 and I bowl regionals about once a month in addition to local challenging condition tourneys.
Music: I have a taste for lots of types of music. I also have attended a varitey of shows in the past. Everything from Journey to passing out at Phish.
Movies: The dumber humor the better. Naked Guns, Caddyshack, Kingpin, Fletch. So many to list.
TV: I watch religously PBA bowling, 24, Lost, Ghost Hunters, Hell's Kitchen. I also watch for the most part Survivorman, all CSI's, and all Law and Orders. I still like to flip through the channels though.
Books: I have to be honest, I have never read a book from front to back.
Likes: Bowling, Fishing, Camping, and being a couch potato.
Dislikes: Not being able to express myself, my wife shopping, house dumper bowlers, and losing.
    Hobbies: Look above at likes....
Vices: What the hell is a vice?
Virtues: Laziest hard worker you have ever found! I am also organized, I need to know where stuff is!
Heroes: I can't be cliche in this and say someone in my family because I have a small, yet messed up family. I also never really looked up to anyone, I was quite independant growing up. So since this is a bowling website, I will say Amleto Monacelli. I used to beg for him to be on TV when I was a youngin. His style was like no one else's at the time.

    Questioning myself

Thursday, March 15, 2007, 01:02 PM EST [General]

After 3/4 the way through the worst league season in probably 5 or so years (personally not team), I start to wonder if I am one of those league hacks I always talk about.  I have been spiralling down and now am at 210.  Mind you the place I bowl at is tough to carry, but that is just an excuse.  Real bowlers would change angles and hand positions to get carry.  I have tried, but unsuccessful.

I always thought of myself as someone who knows what to do but there is some sort of block between my brain and my form after the 2nd step.

Do I really need to spend money at tournaments this year?  Up until 2 years ago, I used to do semi-local challenge shot tourneys and leave with at least my money back most of the time.  I haven't done that in a while.  Do I need practice?  or am I just not that good?  Those are the questions I am pondering.

It's almost regional time too.  That is what depresses me.  I know I can compete but at what expense do I say I can't?

I am sure bowling only 3 games a week doesn't help.  But I am surrounded by people who do that and go to tournaments and compete on a high level.  I guess I just don't have that natural talent and need to work hard.
